Cosmetic Acupuncture

A natural and holistic approach to a youthful appearance

Cosmetic Acupuncture, also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture or facial acupuncture, is a virtually painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process.

Based on the principles of Oriental Medicine, imbalances of the physical, mental and emotional levels are identified and treated. This allows the regulatory movement and rhythms of the body to return to normal functioning. The use of acupuncture to treat the internal health of the body and face, results in a more vibrant complexion and youthful appearance.

The use of acupuncture to slow the visible effects of aging began in China in the Song Dynasty (960-1279AD). It is known by “Chinese Medical Cosmetology” in traditional Chinese medicine.

How it works

Acupuncture has been shown to increase circulation of blood and lymph throughout the body. Increased blood flow can balance out skin colour and can help to maintain healthy skin and muscle tone. By increasing lymph flow, build up of noxious elements in the skin can be eliminated by the body.

Needles inserted into the face affect collagen and elastin production. This tightens the skin, tones the muscle of the face and reduces the appearance of fine lines.

The effects it can have

The benefits of facial acupuncture are subtle and its effects can be profound. It can help to:

  • improve muscle tone and dermal contraction
  • increase collagen production and distribution
  • reduce bags under the eyes
  • reduce sagging and jowls
  • decrease puffiness around the face
  • reduce the appearance of fine lines
  • smooth out larger wrinkles
  • tighten the skin pores
  • lift drooping eye lids
  • reduce stress evident in the face
  • boost the radiance of the complexion
  • restore inner health to reveal vibrant appearance
  • moisten the skin through increased circulation to the face

What to expect

On your first treatment we discuss your overall health history, including any physical, mental and emotional issues in your life. We will then evaluate what changes you would like to see in your face and skin. An acupuncture treatment will then be administered. The first session usually takes about an hour and thirty minutes. The follow-up sessions will last for approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

The needles are inserted into the face and body while you are lying down. Once the needles are in, you lay there relaxing for approximately 20-30 minutes. A facial massage will follow to help enhance the effects of the needling. All needles are sterile and are disposed immediately after their use.

Frequency fo treatment

To obtain the best long term results, a course of ten treatments at weekly intervals is recommended. This can then be followed by regular one-month to six-weekly maintenance treatments. This treatment plan generally optimises results and provides endurance to the changes achieved.

Advice will be given relating to diet, exercise and rest, to help improve your health and well-being throughout your course of treatment. Striving to maintain balance in your life will reflect in a vibrant and glowing face.
